Science Credential Curriculum

The Science Credential Curriculum is part of the University of Lucknow's Integrated Secondary Science BSc/Bed. A team of faculty at the University of Lucknow have defined a set of Student Learning Outcomes for all students completing the programme.

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and dispositions of the disciplines of science and education
  2. Apply the principles, practices, and dispositions of the disciplines of science and education in diverse educational settings
  3. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and apply them in designing classroom instruction
  4. Demonstrate effective communication skills
  5. Effectively use appropriate technology in science teaching and use it as a means for staying current in the scholarship of the discipline(s)
  6. Demonstrate the ability to engage students with science and develop the scientific temper

The Science Credential Curriculum is composed of COURSES from four disciplines. These courses are listed below along with the STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES for each of these courses.

Physics Course

Student Learning Outcomes for the Physics Course
  1. Demonstrate understanding of interconnectivity of different physical parts and processes of the universe and its effects on human beings
  2. Establish a direct logical correspondence between theory and experiments in physics
  3. Demonstrate a relationship between the concepts of physics and the real-life situations leading to understanding of basic principles and scientific temper
  4. Demonstrate the application of the laws of physics as the essential basis of technology and design
  5. Design new laboratory experiments and create new ideas based on logical analysis and deduction for solving problems
  6. Access existing literature, technology, and other resources to keep knowledge updated in physics
  7. Draw and construct models for demonstration of working principles of physics in classroom settings and outside*
  8. Evolve teaching of physics through questions and answers at levels of groups and individuals*
  9. Demonstrate applications of modern methods in teaching of physics*

Math Course

Student Learning Outcomes for the Math Course
  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Animal diversity, evolutionary biology and ecology
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Animal physiology, cell biology, genetics and biochemistry
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of molecular biology and applied zoology
  4. Demonstrate the understanding of the dynamics of zoology in human welfare and environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation
  5. Demonstrate computer skills including biostatistics and bioinformatics
  6. Demonstrate the ability to effectively conduct experiments based on the theoretical aspects of Zoology
  7. Demonstrate the ability to critically analyze, evaluate and interpret zoological phenomena
  8. Design innovative instructions in the subject as per diverse educational settings*
  9. Develop the ability to motivate students to take up animal sciences for higher studies*

Chemistry Course

Student Learning Outcomes for the Chemistry Course
  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of terms, concepts, processes, techniques and principles related to Chemistry with the help of models and computers
  2. Apply knowledge of contents and principles of chemistry in different situations
  3. Demonstrate skills in proper handling of chemicals and apparatus
  4. Demonstrate scientific temper, reasoning, attitude and problem solving skills in the discipline of chemistry
  5. Able to create and conduct well-planned experiments in order to inculcate the spirit of experimentation and make students feel the joy of discovering a new fact and draw conclusions*
  6. Demonstrate the principles of brain-storming in concepts, illustrations, models, and examples from the daily life so as to arouse and retain their interest in chemistry*
  7. Design and implement experimentation and demonstration as a part of class room teaching*
  8. Formulate recapitulary questions followed by suggested activities containing practical application of the concepts studied in class*
  9. Develop the ability motivate students to take up chemistry for higher studies*

Teacher Education Course

Student Learning Outcomes for the Teacher Education Course
  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and dispositions of various branches of knowledge in the discipline of education
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the pupils' mental equipment, personality, and development with the help of educational psychology and make their effective use in becoming a competent science teacher
  3. Demonstrate the understanding of the educational needs of normal and differently-abled students
  4. Make effective use of technology in teaching of science and also make its use as a means for staying current in scholarship in the discipline of education
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the nature, purpose and various aspects of philosophy of secondary education and its relationship to contemporary society
  6. Demonstrate competencies relevant to curriculum development, its transaction and its evaluation
  7. Design effective classroom instructions and lesson plans in science disciplines through application of methods and models of teaching, educational psychology and educational technology
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of the science teaching resources, diverse field experiences, and the dynamics of school organization and apply it in actual practice of science teaching
  9. Perform effective teaching of science in a school and thereby learn to adjust in the school environment and its activities
  10. Demonstrate the ability to identify and utilize community resources as educational inputs
